Bones and drawings found, possibly 30.000 years old
In a recently discovered cave, speleologists have found bones and engravings possibly 30.000 years old. That's more then twice the age of the paintings in the famous cave of Lascaux.
It's not the first time such old things are found. Six years ago it happened in Cussac, a tiny village in the Dordogne area, halfway between Périgueux and Sarlat. Special thing about the new foundings in Vilhonneur (Charente) nortyh of Périgueux is, according to the Nouvel Observateur, that this cave may have been a sanctuary of Crow-Magnon people. There are only two of these kind known in Europe.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Culture does it's utter best to keep enthousiasm down. For the time being the cave of Vilhonneur will not be opened to the public.

Ik vind het geweldig...Je denkt dat alles nu wel onmderzocht en/of gevonden is,wat gebeurt er de afgelopen 2 weken: in Egypte wordt een (weliswaar eeuwen geleden al geplunderde) graftombe gevonden, in Griekenland iets soortgelijks. In Nieuw-Guinea verschillende diersoorten, ergens in die buurt ook nog eens vissen, in China een voorloper van de T-rex....Het lijkt wel komkommertijd!

Vilhonneur ligt in de Charente, bij Angouleme. Dat is niet echt een toeristisch gebied, dus veel campings zul je er niet hebben. Maar goed, die grot wordt zoals ik al schreef toch niet opengesteld, dus veel zin heeft het neit om daar heen te gaan. Lascaux zelf is ook niet toegankelijk, maar iets verderop is deze grot zorgvuldig nagemaakt. Lascaux ligt in het Dordogne-gebied, daar heb je campings te over.
